Case studies

Case studies: how we analyze a financial scam

We show what we review and what we deliver in common situations. We don’t show promises: every case is different, and no result is automatically repeated.

How to read this page. Scenarios marked “illustrative” are examples we built to explain our method. They are not real clients and do not describe results obtained. Real cases are published only in anonymized form, with the person’s written authorization and after legal review.

Illustrative scenario · Crypto assets

Cryptocurrency sent after a contact on social media

The situation

A person gets a message on social media from a so-called advisor, opens an account on an unfamiliar platform, and sends cryptocurrency in several transfers. When they try to withdraw, they’re asked for an extra payment to “release” the funds.

What we analyze

  • The hash of each transfer and the destination addresses
  • The path of the funds up to identifiable services
  • Domain registration and presence on warning lists
  • Timeline of messages, payments, and requests

What you receive

A Viability Report with a map of the funds’ path, verifiable attachments, and the possible paths forward: a report to IC3 and the FTC, a legal request to an exchange through a licensed attorney, or an informed decision to close the case if no reasonable path exists.

What we don’t do: we don’t promise to recover funds, we don’t negotiate with scammers, and we don’t ask for access to your accounts or wallets.

Illustrative scenario · Forex broker

A Forex broker that demands “taxes” to release a withdrawal

The situation

After several months of on-screen “profits,” the person requests a withdrawal. The broker replies that they must first pay a tax or a release fee, and the advisor insists it’s a normal procedure.

What we analyze

  • The broker’s registration with the CFTC and the NFA
  • The age and owner of the website’s domain
  • The flow of deposits and the charges demanded
  • Public regulator alerts about the entity

What you receive

A report documenting the registration status, the payments made, and the warning signs, along with the paths that apply: a claim with the bank or card issuer, reports to the CFTC and IC3 and, where appropriate, a consultation with a licensed attorney.

What we don’t do: we don’t promise to recover funds, we don’t negotiate with scammers, and we don’t ask for access to your accounts or wallets.

Illustrative scenario · Investment platform

A fixed-return platform that stopped paying

The situation

A group of people invests in a program that promises a fixed monthly return. For a while, the payments arrive; then the platform claims it is under an “audit,” changes its name, and stops paying.

What we analyze

  • The payment structure and its reliance on new deposits
  • Related companies and individuals
  • Public actions by the SEC, the CFTC, or state attorneys general
  • Whether a court has appointed a receiver

What you receive

A report that organizes the person’s participation (deposits, withdrawals, and communications) and, if a receiver exists, explains how to file the claim and which documents to include.

What we don’t do: we don’t promise to recover funds, we don’t negotiate with scammers, and we don’t ask for access to your accounts or wallets.
